Sir Stephen Hough

6pm, Saturday, March 1st, 2025
Fairlight Hall, Fairlight, Hastings

Described by Classical Music magazine as “one of the world’s greatest pianists”, and by Musical America as “at the top of his game”, Stephen Hough is a fearsomely accomplished pianist. Named by The Economist as one of 20 Living Polymaths, he is truly a Renaissance man of our time. Over the course of a long and distinguished career that has taken him to virtually every major concert hall, he has also excelled as a writer and composer.

He combines an exceptional facility and tonal palette with a uniquely inquisitive musical personality, and his musical achievements have resulted in many awards and accolades for his concerts and a discography of more than fifty recordings. A regular at the BBC Proms, this year he won the hearts of audiences with his appearance at the Last Night.

We are honoured that Sir Stephen has agreed to become our Patron, and delighted that he is taking time out of his busy schedule to give an intimate recital in the glorious surroundings of Fairlight Hall. His intriguing programme pairs the music of the relatively unknown French composer Cécile Chaminade with the undisputed giant of the romantic piano repertoire, Frédéric Chopin.

Sir Stephen’s recital promises to be an unforgettable evening that will help to support the charitable work of Hastings International Piano, which nurtures the concert pianists of tomorrow through its international piano competition as well as offering musical opportunities for children and community groups across Hastings. Unmissable.
