Schools
We want every child in Hastings to have access to high-quality musical opportunities, and we aim to give all state primary schools in Hastings the chance for their students to take part in one of our inspiring Schools’ workshops.
Our tried-and-tested one day sessions are led by an experienced workshop leader, Sam Glazer. The day begins with the chance for pupils to hear a fabulous young pianist from the competition playing some music specially chosen with a young audience in mind. Pupils are then supported to create a brand-new piece of music from scratch – often this is a song on a theme suggested by the students. Before the end of the school day, there’s a showcase assembly, giving the participants the chance to perform their composition for the rest of the school.
No musical experience is needed – just enthusiasm! Our workshops are designed for everyone, including pupils with SEND or English as an additional language.
Workshops are filling up fast – don’t miss out! If you would like your school to be involved please email Rosa Amor, Learning & Development Coordinator.
“The thing that inspired me was Rose, I have a keyboard at home, and I love playing on it, Rose made me want to learn how to play the piano, thank you Rose!”
Feedback from Year 5 pupil at St Paul’s School on Rose McLachlan, 2024 HIPCC competitor.
“I felt the children were fully engaged and respected both Sam and Gabriele [pianist]. They were eager to take part and continually showed that they wanted to be involved by sharing their thoughts and ideas about the songwriting process.”
